Developed in partnership with R J Clyde Builders and Ca’Piatra, Penn Road is a celebration of elegant simplicity, combining refined metalwork with expertly crafted stone-clad stairs to create a staircase of timeless appeal.
Thomas Brenton was commissioned to manufacture and install the bespoke steel balustrade and handcrafted handrail for this impressive entrance hall. The design embraces clean architectural lines and balanced proportions, allowing the sweeping geometry of the staircase and the beauty of the natural stone to take centre stage.
Working closely with Ca’Piatra, who supplied and installed the stone cladding, every detail was carefully coordinated to ensure the balustrade integrated seamlessly with the staircase structure. The result is a striking focal point that feels both contemporary and enduring, perfectly suited to the scale and elegance of the space.
Simplicity Through Craftsmanship
Whilst understated in appearance, the success of this staircase lies in the precision of its execution. Each spindle was individually manufactured and positioned to maintain perfect alignment around the sweeping curves and transitions of the staircase.
The slender steel balusters and flowing handrail create a sense of lightness within the double-height entrance hall, complementing the crisp architectural detailing and expansive spaces surrounding the staircase.
The combination of natural stone and handcrafted metalwork creates a balanced architectural feature that feels both luxurious and welcoming. The soft tones of the stone contrasts beautifully with the dark metal balustrade, emphasising the staircase’s elegant curves and giving the space a timeless character.
As the focal point of the entrance hall, the staircase was designed to make an immediate impression while maintaining an understated elegance. The curved handrail, continuous balustrade lines and stone-clad construction combine to create a staircase that is both architecturally impressive and beautifully restrained.
The finished installation demonstrates how exceptional craftsmanship and carefully selected materials can elevate even the simplest forms into a striking architectural feature.
