BREACH HOUSE

Delivered in partnership with R W Armstrong and developed in close collaboration with Adam Architecture, Breach House showcases a beautifully crafted staircase and balustrade inspired by traditional English country house design.

Thomas Brenton was commissioned to manufacture and install the bespoke interior staircase balustrade, decorative forged steel spindles and handcrafted timber handrail. The design combines elegant scrollwork, finely proportioned balusters and a richly detailed handrail profile, creating a staircase that feels both timeless and architecturally authentic.

Every component was individually crafted and carefully finished to complement the home’s traditional joinery, panelling and interior detailing. The result is a grand focal point that reflects the quality of craftsmanship found throughout this exceptional residence.

Beautiful Light and Shadows

One of the most distinctive features of this balustrade is the way the decorative spindle design interacts with natural light throughout the day. The intricate scrolls cast ever changing shadows across the timber panelling and walls, bringing movement, depth and character to the staircase hall.

Working closely with Adam Architecture, the proportions and detailing were designed to feel historically appropriate while benefiting from modern manufacturing precision. The result is a balustrade that enhances both the architecture of the building and the experience of the space itself.

Interior balustrade and wooden handrail.

The interior staircase combines traditional forged metalwork with a finely crafted hardwood handrail, shaped to follow the complex geometry of the staircase. From the decorative landing panels to the sweeping curved transitions, every element was manufactured and installed with exceptional attention to detail.

The combination of warm timber, decorative steelwork and classical proportions creates a staircase that serves as both a functional element and a centrepiece within the home.

External metal balustrade and balcony railings.

Beyond the main staircase, Thomas Brenton also manufactured and installed the property’s bespoke external balustrades and balcony railings. Designed to complement the architecture of the house, the external metalwork features elegant proportions and subtle detailing, providing continuity between the interior and exterior spaces.

Finished to withstand the elements while maintaining a refined appearance, the railings integrate seamlessly with the brickwork, stonework and traditional architectural features of this remarkable home.
